CJ, I hear your concern. My son knows the rules about the Gordet; practice at home, at school right before a concert and he can play it on the concert nights. He is a very responsible kid.
Last year he was sometimes late for a next class because he wasn't finished swabbing and wiping down the keys when the bell rang. He didn't rush, just got the job done. At home he would grease the cork and make sure the instrument was ready to play the next day.
I have a Fox 300 coming this week that he will take to school. We will return the school's oboe as it is a beast to try to play. I have a good repair tech but have to ship the instrument to him. I'm not willing to go to this expense with a school owned instrument.
As it stands, I don't have to tell him to practice. He just does. We have a lesson with his private instructor tomorrow. He can't wait! Now that's success!
