Good to hear. I hope you don't hold onto that sentimental value, because unless your 12 year old son is extremely meticulous, chances are the instrument isn't going to remain in the state that it currently is in.
Make sure to keep it well maintained, perhaps taking it in every 3 or 4 months for adjustment and yearly cleaning.
I think most of us on this board still believe that if all it takes to keep him happy is a working, sealing instrument, you'd still be better off giving him a plastic fox 330 for the first couple of years and then passing the Gordet to him once he enters high school. But he's got it now and might never let you pry it from his hands!
I remember playing on these crappy wood band instruments from grade 6-7, and then I bought an old DM Loree. When in 9th grade I realized how badly the Loree needed adjustment, I borrowed the school Fox 330 while my DM was shipped off to a man to overhaul it. The Fox played a lot better than the Loree! I sold the Loree almost immediately and moved on to a newer instrument.
