Just as there are many ways of playing the oboe there are ways of producing vibrato. There are a couple of things vibrato should not do, and the most important is for the pitch not to vacilate. If the pitch is at all unstable because of vibrato then it is time to re-think how you produce it.
While it is true that vibrato is used to simulate the human voice it is also a tool to add colour to the sound. Therefore if your vibrato never moves beyond a steady metronomic pulsation making the tone robotic and inhuman and not at all singing, then the point of vibrato is lost. If you can change the speed of your vibrato, make diminuendo and crescendo and long phrase lines are not disrupted by your vibrato then don't worry about it. Eventually it will come from the "right" place.
