 I'm in the USA but I studied with Marcel J Dandois a french trained performer down in Fort Worth Texas. The problem with vibrato is that you cannot be sure where your vibrato is coming from--- lips or chest. My best guess is that since the lungs are under high pressure playing oboe it would be near impossible to pay varied types of vibrato. Try playing a slow and then fast cycles of vibrato using chest muscles alone. If the oboe used a low pressure air stream (such as flute) chest vibrato can be used alone. While everyone says lip vibrato is a no-no, are there any studies that show exactly what happens when various players have a vibrato? With any vibrato using the lips you cannot overdo and lose control of the reed. The chest muscles sometimes go into involuntary spasms therefore I have better control of my lip muscles than chest muscles. The same should apply to you unless you are built backwards.
 
 p.s. when I whistle I vibrato using my tongue. Do you have a tongue vibrato?
