I happen to have that problem too, I'll loose air, not out my nose but out of the corners of my mouth; and I'll not be able to play anything for the rest of the day. I tend to use vibrato as my band director tells me to, which is almost all the time.
I would assume it's something like singing, yes? I'm a choral student as well, (2nd soprano, if you must know), and I try to sing through my instrument with vibrato. Not sure if that really works, but I was brought up singing a lot of Broadway tunes and other such things, so vibrato is nothing new to me vocally.
My band director and I have had an... interesting time figuring out how the instrument really works. It's one of the best things I've done with my life, but it's also one of the most painfully frustrating things as well.
