Just to chime in here with two other sources of oboe etudes, I would mention the David Hite "Melodious and Progressive Studies," in two volumes (Southern Music), and the Prestini "Raccolta di Studi" (Ricordi).

These might be especially good when you are up-to-here with Barret and his nineteenth century ways. The Hite vol. 1 is perhaps a little easier than Barret, and I found the melodies very pleasant to play. The Prestini is challenging -- a technical "growth experience" for the intermediate oboist-- and to my ear, very, very musical. That's what I am working out of now, and I just don't get tired of it like I did the Barret (which, for some reason, I disliked intensely).

With the Prestini, you have the added advantage of working with studies designed by an accomplished oboe technician, who knew all the pitfalls of oboe fingerings, and wasn't afraid to confront you with them.
