that interval is a toughie! I always have the problem where it just comes out as an unpitched hoot, rather than a tone. (instant audition disqualification!!!)
As of lately, I have used the fingering

h23(G#)/x2xC

So basically, a D with the G# key down. I used to have my philadelphia d engaged, but then I unscrewed it...it meant I had to learn to finger d's the old-fashioned way, but it gave me this very useful fingering. The pitch of the Eb tends to be a bit high, but as long as the reed is well balanced, so that the Ab isn't low, then it should be fine. It's so fast anyway.
