 How about a vibrating oboe?

Second in a series of provocative questions,...( partly Andy Rooney partly Jerry Seinfled at times, but perhaps some value lies beneath.)

Some staple makers experiment with non-cork 'corks'... idea is to change and hopefully improve aspects of the oboe sound.

Mark Chudnow offers staples with O-rings rather than cork. Friends who have tried them think they definitely make a difference and potentially a positive one. One premise is reducing the suppression of vibrations conveyed from the reed to the bore/oboe walls.

If getting the bore to vibrate would help in some ways (and this probably needs some good 'scientific data' to support the notion) why not enhance it mechanically? Put some vibrating thing on it/in it, built into the body of the oboe and supply power some way and let it do its magic. And the same power could heat the oboe to playing temps... great for doublers.

Perhaps this would work better with wood, or maybe resin... perhaps the resin could be acoustically tuned to augment the effect.

( I actually suggested a similar concept to my first conservatory instructor who thought the idea lacked merit... I feel somewhat exonerated by other's current attemps along similar lines.)

How about synthetic staples to replace the metal portions.... something that would supplement the vibrations more than the metals we use?

How about applying the vibrotron right to the bell?... lots of possibilities.
