You can always rewrite the oboe parts out transposed up a 5th to make it easier - but if the original concert pitch parts go too high for cor, then drop the cor parts down a 4th from concert pitch (so a concert high C will drop down a perfect 4th to G for cor) - it'll then sound an 8ve lower than concert pitch.

As for looking for an affordable cor, try asking around some colleges or other institutes that have a music department - they might have a long neglected cor languishing in some dark instrument cupboard somewhere - it's worth a try.

My first cor was an ancient old rosewood Loree cor that came from a technical college in Wales (which I bought from Howarths back in the early '90s for around £200 - much less than the price of a new Buffet B12) - though it had a nice tone and light as a feather in weight, the tuning was duff as it had been badly converted to thumbplate system (and pure thumbplate at that - not dual system as I'd have preferred), and had seen a pretty tough life.

The other place is pawn shops, though the chances are their stock has been bought and bunged on eBay.

Though you can always beg, borrow or rent a cor from a player or double-reed specialist.
