May I suggest that you find an experienced player to help you.
My two english horns both have G2s that are not stable. There are no leaks in the instruments and I expect that the instability is caused by the lower half of the instrument being slightly different in resonance than the top half when a G2 is fingered. G1 is ok. Thus G2 is pulled upward in frequency more than I like. It doesn't cause any worry as I now normally finger the G2 with the R3 finger down when it is feasible. One can also lip it downward. No fiddling with the reed will help at all and the instruments tune up and sound great otherwise. One could call it a "wolf note" but no maker or seller of english horns will like to hear that term. It is a natural phenomena for that acoustic configuration.
Try the Jay Light book on reed making as it is very good. I have definite opinions on the crowing of reeds which I can pass on if you email me privately. Good luck!
