well, Walter, yes you DO require an EH mandrel but I learned a trick while an oboe major in college (now this would be aimed at only p/t EH players which you apprntly are not!). My oboe teacher told all us oboe students to avoid shelling out $ for an additional mandrel, one could just take their oboe madrel, put an oboe staple on it and strip the cork! It really works but then again i've only probably made less than half a dozen EH reeds in my life! That's it for my "tips" though a woman who I went to college with has developed into an EH expert and I consukt her for any and all EH concerns I may have!
