This post started off as an answer to Dutchy, on the "Selmer Oboes" thread. But since it is w-a-y off that topic, and probably of general interest, I thought I'd give it a new thread.
Yeah, there are some pretty dubious oboe reeds for sale out there. But, as I recall, over the years, we have more than once listed the names and contact information of reliable reedmakers on this Board. For Karen or anyone else who is contemplating a reed purchase, I'd suggest a search of this site.

http://reedreviews.net/. Most of the "usual suspects" are listed here, with ratings and comments from users, and links to the reed makers' sites.
When I was first starting out, I was too embarrassed to ask questions about where to get reeds, or whatever. I didn't want to show my ignorance, I guess (as if that would make it go away!!). If I have learned anything at all in the process of learning to play the oboe, I have learned to ASK FIRST, before clicking the ol' Buy-it-Now button.
