Maybe you could transpose the hymns to a more suitable range for the oboe.
If you're not limited to hymns you could play something like the adagio in F major from cantata No.156 or the adagio from "Easter Oratorio" BWV249 (both by JS Bach) which might work well (as well as a gazillion other baroque pieces.).
