Although I play a Covey oboe now, I did try a couple recent Royal and AK Lorees recently from friends.
Tonally, I liked them both but overall favored the AK. High range on both was great but the extra weight of the Royal put me off a bit.
I thought intonation on both were better than my previous Loree ( DZ somethng... circa 1977) and I would be happy playing either of the newer Loree models as a great oboe, but still, I am giving Covey first round on my next oboe choice. If its as good as I expect I'll buy Covey again.
My Loree showed a lot of wear in 8 years. My Covey almost looks like new after 20 years and really plays well.
