I find I tend to play with less reed in my mouth than most people I play with, but not really on the littlest possible reed.
I'll try that with the rounded reed tips and see what happens. I plan to do some test recording today, and if it reveals anyting interesting, I could make MP3 files and send as email attachment.
Actually, if you (or others) have time and would like to participate in the experiment you inspired, I could send a couple different samples but not tell you which is which at first, have you describe what you hear, then reveal the tip characteristics.
(And as bad as this snow bound dementia is becoming, there is more snow on the way, and add to that 100 mph plus winds in parts of Colorao today building even more snow drifts.)
