Haha, no such thing as too much wine---- especially if you are snowbound! My sympathies to you for the triple whammy your area has taken with the snow. I feel badly for all the livestock. Here in Maryland, we have the opposite problem- with trees budding and bulbs sprouting already (thanks to 70-degree weather yesterday and unseasonably warm temps in general). Not that I'm complaining! I kow why it is, though--- we bought an $800 snowblower last year and have yet to even start it. That is Murphy's law.
I think clipping the corners of a reed helps when one or more of the blades' edges is thinner than the rest, or maybe a little ragged or frayed-- this can lead to chirping, and cutting the corners at an angle can fix this without changing the reed very much, if at all.
