From the looks of the instrument pictured in the link above, I'd say it is an older student-grade instrument, or at most, an intermediate grade, with pot-metal keys -- perhaps stamped rather than forged. The wood also looks very dried out. Note that it does not have advanced (full conservatory) keywork (split D, L.H. F. etc.).
I have a (borrowed) Cabart English Horn of roughly the same vintage, and it appears likewise distressed -- and sounds even more distressed. It wasn't a very good instrument, even when it was new. I'd guess the same about the LaMargus.
