 Re: Covey oboes

I just bought a Covey (1988 vintage) and am using my old Loree as a backup. I have liked Covey oboes from the beginning. The keywork is comfortable, the intonation is superb, and the low notes just drop out of the bell! In fact, mine does not even have a Bb resonance key on the bell, but doesn't need one-- the intonation, even down low, is so good it beats the pants off my Loree (which, granted is very old).

My Loree has a sweeter, somewhat lighter sound and I think the upper register might be just a *hair* easier--- but the ease and fullness of the Covey made me awfully glad I bought it.

Does anyone know what professionals use Covey oboes?
