 Re: Humidity level for reeds?

Fantasy invention, plaque-like device -- would flat toothpicks work for you? the long pointy end could fit down reed throat OK, then shape wet used reed around the flat end?

ah, so i'm not imagining it, my summer reeds were all reluctant to play with normal wetting up routine since the arrival of moist colder weather and yet there they were this summer, all reluctant to play in dry hot weather until they'd had a long drink for 20 minutes first!

rapid up- and down-drafts of atmospheric air and rapidly changing air pressures during thunderstorms must make it very hard to control one's own lung air pressure behind the reed?

40-60% seems a wide range of variable moisture in a 'dry' reed, 60% seems to suggest it's still damp???
