I used to make my own, but getting the consistency from reed to reed is difficult when making by hand - I wouldn't mind a profiling machine so at least things are more uniform, but the amount of time needed to get things right can be spent more usefully - people that make reeds in large numbers to sell know what they're doing, so I'd rather get reeds from a reliable source rather than my own trial and error approach.
I prefer making my own cor reeds.
