Re: different tonal tastes and reed design

Well, I'm from Canada, the great white north...and it's basically generalized to an American style of reedmaking up here. Basically the structure of the reed is such that the vibrations travel down the channels in the left and right side of the reed as opposed to the centre. The American style of reedmaking is in many ways much more complicated than most of the European styles and it differs in such ways as the American style incorporates a back into the reed, and there is a defined 'spine', a thicker area running down the centre of the reed. As for a 'constant supply of reeds'...if such a thing extisted that person would be making a fortune right now!! Unfortunately, unless you want to buy so-so store bought reeds (well, there are some good ones out there...few and far between and usually very expensive) you have to make them yourself or get them from a teacher! A lot of work...but very rewarding!

What do you mean by 'tonal paths'? I've never heard that term before...

Graham
