Uh oh, Chris (and Jay) --
My estimable teacher had a fit when she saw me putting down those extra fingers to "sweeten" the C (not because of anything you said -- I figured this one out on my own, because you can -- and need to -- do sorta the same thing with a clarinet, my original instrument).
At any rate, she said (inscrutably), "You just put a cap on it," when I asked her what, then, to do about the shrillness of the C.
She couldn't explain what that means, and I don't know if I've figured it out yet. I do know that with continued embouchure development (that nice round embouchure) I don't notice the C very much anymore -- it seems much more in line with the other tones that it did at first.
Maybe my ear is just getting used to the shock, but I do think things have kind of fallen into line for me.
