Reed making is sort of like your embouchure, if you don't play oboe (or make reeds) for a day or two, it's more difficult to play well (or make a good reed). Making a reed a day ensures that you'll have an ample supply.
Reeds don't necessarily go bad after a few hours. Of course some do, but some will play well for several days.
I no longer have enough time to make reeds every day. It's hard enough to find time to practice oboe every day. But I do make reeds at least weekly.
