Because I'm getting tired of discussing the same issues in the Reed Strength thread, I thought I'd start another one about something somewhat different.
Mr. Mack, Mr. Robinson, Mr. Stolper, and Ms. Eberle all promoted playing on "new reeds" everytime you play. The idea: Every day you wake up and the temperature is different, your mouth condition is different, and maybe even your altitude and health is different. So why not make a new reed which fits your condition for that day? All of the oboists mentioned above told me every day before practicing and before every performance, they would make 5 reeds, pick the best one, and play on that one for the day. I'm sure this concept originated with Mr. Mack, although it might have originated with Mr. Tabuteau.
Now, granted I realize not all of us are professionals, or even reed self sufficient, but for us that are, how many of us follow this technique?
