It's a shame kingwood dulls to a brown colour rather than staying the rich, deep purple colour (hence the name 'violetwood') when it's first turned, though the contrasting stripes in the grain are pretty impressive - especially on cor or d'amore bells! I'm tempted by a kingwood Howarth clarinet (with gold plated keys) that's in at the moment!
