I personally haven't noticed a difference in the actual sound produced using silver or brass staples. By far the most important thing to consider when selecting tubes/staples is whether they fit your mandrel perfectly (again: fit *perfectly*). I personally prefer silver staples because they hold their shape much better and as such can be re-used much more often which can save a lot of $$. They're more expensive at first, but IMHO worth the investment.
