 Re: Brass or silver

My physics-derived prejudices make me think that shape matters more than material. I have had problems tying reeds onto Chudnow's CA staples, with the blades tending to gap at the tips, but the reeds I make with these staples sound and play wonderfully. I was rather skeptical at first that, with my poor reedmaking skills, that I would be able to notice a difference between different types of staples. But about two weeks ago I put together all the "most wonderful" reeds I had made in the last six months or so and they all tended to be on Sierra or CA staples.

Now I'm trying to figure out how to prevent the tip-gapping problem, and tying the reed further down on the staple seems to help somewhat. I may need to try different cane shapes to work with these staples.
