Hi all!!!
First off, let me tell ya how glad I am to use this board. You're all so helpful and full of many helpful tips.
I played the oboe for 11 yrs. I took a 30 year hiatus and am getting back into it (bought a new oboe too).
Back when I was playing during the 11 years, I never remembered feeling my tongue touch the reed to articulate. Now that I'm playing again, I still can't actually feel the reed with my tongue (atleast not that I'm aware of). To consciously feel it, I almost have to "stick out" my tongue. Also when I do that I have to flatten my embochure which isn't good. I'm assuming that I maybe hitting the roof of my mouth...or maybe the tip of my tongue isn't very sensative. Anyhoo...I was wondering if hitting the rough of my mouth is an accetable way of articulation. At present, I can tongue pretty rapidly (single and double), nice "home-shaped" embouchure, and tone.
Right now finances are pretty tight and simply can't afford a teacher. Any hints or advise is appreciated. BTW I was a convert from the flute way back. Still play the recorder and Highland bagpipes occasionally.
P.S. I've tried shoving the reed farther into my mouth but it ends up too far in.
Thanks alot.
Gary
