Ckoboe,
RDG woodwinds is making a Stevens copy staple that I have had some pretty good success with. I also know that double or nothing reeds innCincinnati is doing a prototype and I believe chudnow is also working on one (rumors maybe?). I know many people and former students who are having success with the chiarugi tubes. However, I'm not a huge Stevens staple fan and only used the originals for a while several ears back.
I personally ALWAYS find success and great reeds with Sierra staples from chudnow. I also have had success with Pisonimstapkes, although if you are a beginning reed maker I would, not recommend them as the metal is very thick and difficult to get a Reed to seal perfectly. Nielsen staples have also worked in the past. I have never had luck with Loree AK staples in the 25 years I have been making reeds, but that is my personal experience. Each person is different.
