I tried Cooper's suggestion and so far like the Vaseline the best. It lasts for a couple of weeks and is cheap and easy. I just rub a small amount on with the tip of my little finger. It works nicely too on the o-rings of my MCW staples.

I don't have a good situation now for making up a mixture of anything (living in a motor home).
