50 years old is not "old" in today's standard. Holliger gave the best performances after 50. I congratualte you for persistant love of playing oboe.
Our body has many many intricate and inter-related functions. You should consult appropriate professional for recommendations. At least, I know that any excercise is good for something and at the same time not beneficial to others. Do not jump into taking "free advises" on line. They may be worth the price. We are living in a age where too many partially true statements go around, especially related to health and welfare areas. However, old saying from generations of experience tends to stand up to scientifically precise partial truth .... butter, eggs, slow warm up,...
Do not forget that "A path to hell is covered with truth."
