Thank you all for your kind words! I have just come back from rehearsal (playing on MY reeds!) to see your messages.
I guess I know it is all true, but since I am not a pro and I have not been doing this for very long, I feel like I have less cred (do you guys all say that? Short for credibility) and nothing to back it up but my playing. I have never had reedmaking lessons for short scrape, and I've never had lessons where we have dealt with reed problems as a part of playing. All I know is what I figure out myself.
I did think of the Ledet, Mark. I can't believe that many reed styles can get similar sounds, and conversely how the same reed style can get so many different sounds. I guess that is the point, right?
