I agree with previous posts. I would offer this advice - find a playable and adjusted oboe to learn with. It might be a long shot but perhaps another school in your district may have a good loaner oboe? Find good reeds. A teacher or experienced player to get lessons from is very important.
I taught myself oboe in 8th grade and did not have lessons until my 30's. I had to undo all of those bad habits and still have some - lessons are worth it.
Your school should pay for repair. It wouldn't hurt to ask about a loaner or rent short term. If you only have to wait until May just look for a good teacher until then.
