It is obvious your band teacher is totally clueless here!
He has put you in an unfair position.
Oboes can only be played correctly/well when they are in perfect condition/adjustment.
Why torture yourself?
The school has the responsibility to fix the instrument and ensure it is in playable condition.
Now if you really want to play the Oboe. Then maybe YOU should take it to be fixed (if it is fixable at all) or rent a good oboe from a reputable dealer/store.
