The latest generation of profilers have better blades and tighter tolerances than ever before. I heard Nick Deutsch* say that he expected oboe-reed-making to go the way of clarinet-reed-making within a few years, and he recommended the K. Ge profiler in particular.
Most profilers leave the cane a little thick so that you can do the final adjustments by hand. This is quite easy to learn.

* For those not in the know, Prof. Deutsch started oboecane.com several years back, providing some of the most consistent cane obtainable in Europe, and he is currently professor of Oboe in Leipzig.
