Hello,
I just got what appears to be a simple-system oboe: 12 keys (not counting a sort of plateau-key affair for the left index finger), 3 rings, 2 holes without rings (plus hole in side of bell suggesting that this oboe has no low Bb).
It's marked "Kohlert Sons, Graslitz" on the front of the bell, and "Made in Germany" on the back of the bell. Graslitz was in Bohemia before World War 1, which became Czechoslovakia thereafter, then was annexed by Nazi Germany as part of the Sudetenland in 1938. Since this oboe is labeled in English, I'm taking that to mean it was made for the export market, which of course would not likely have happened during WW2...! So it must be from just about 1938.
Anyway: I'm wonder just how "German" an oboe this is, as in, should I get a German-style reed for it?
Thanks!
