Aha, Graham!
You make an excellent point -- and one which squares with my recent experience. I was going crazy trying to figure out how I could be glared at for being flat to the trumpet one minute, and then chastized for being sharp to the clarinets the next.
Definitely, this ensemble had a bad case of changing pitch centers. You absolutely never knew where it was going to be. That's difficult for everybody (except for the ones who are blissfully unaware), but especially so for the oboe, which, in effect, has its own little pitch pipe affixed to the top of the instrument.
I feel SO much better now that you have explained this! Maybe my playing wasn't quite that erratic after all!

P.S. You really think 2 weeks would do it?
