Use forked-F only when necessary. If your regular and left F are out of tune, get them fixed. I don't think it's a good idea to favor the use of forked F over right or left-hand F since in many of the keys we play in, forked-F is awkward.

On many Lorees, forked-F is slightly sharp in the upper register and regular (right-hand) F is slightly flat. This is particularly noticeable when coming from the E just below, since this note tends to be slightly sharp. The tuning of these notes (as with everything on the oboe) is a compromise -- If the E is made flatter in upper register the lower register is too low.

On my Yamaha 841, the forked-F is slightly flatter than the right-hand F in the upper register. Both are pretty good notes though with not as much difference in tone color as the same notes would be on my Loree.
