I think what's happening is that you are using warped cane improperly shaped. Also, if you use Stevens Pro staples, they have spiral ridges on the ends of the staples which prevent the cane from shifting on the staple as it's being tied. If you select, gouge & shape your own cane, you will find that many of your problems cease to exist. The initial cost for required equipment is significant, of course, but after the first few pounds or so of tube cane processed, the return on your investment will become evident in terms of quality…reeds which don't leak mainly & which stay up to pitch.
