Hmm, tying a piece of thread onto a chair and the other end wrapped around a mandrel (no reed), 7 inches, if I try to match the pitch G, I find that firm but not really tight.
I've noticed on tubes that have a really circular opening, I have more trouble sealing. Still not the only issue, though, as I still have leaks on more elliptical openings.
How tight is the string from spool to reed and from reed to hook? Equal tension both hands?
What's your technique for keeping the cane straight on the staple? I have a heck of a time making sure the cane does not rotate about the staple. It tends to rotate as soon as I crossover (is that indicative of something I'm doing wrong?).
I've also read 2 sides of the story where 1) if the blank leaks throw it away immediately, or 2) with some scraping the blades will close. ????
