oboesax,
I am a student in a Singapore secondary school. my school drags from 7am in the morning to 5:30pm in the evening. Apart from heavy homework and projects, i have to balance my practice time too. It's a miracle somebody can practice at least 2 hours a day. I have community band rehearsals on weekends, and after that continue for another 1.5-2 hours. What's more, its my final year and national exams are coming. In order to get into the arts school, i have to get good grades as well. Therefore, 1.5 hours a day is just enough for me to get a 7-hour rest.
Another thing, I've only received a reply from the oboist. I haven't received any reply from a clarinet tutor, or i cannot meet the timeframe for the rest who offered me. Therefore i have to take lessons for one, and self-teach the other. I figured out that picking up the oboe would need lots of work. The oboist of the orchestra invited me for consultation first, but she has not replied my confirmation. Therefore, I plan to increase my hours after the national examinations, which is a must if i want to achieve a degree and also a career in music.
My only worry is which to choose. The oboe or clarinet in the future.
Cheers!
