Thank for the comments. My major concern is it is an old instrument, and that the tuning went out as it aged. Turns out I was just playing so many horns, that my lips were confused, cause after all, you always need to adjust something. John Symer will look it over next week to be sure.
I mixed feelings about the staff at RDG. Nothing to make me not use their service, but I have written them off for advice:
1. When I called them and asked for a recommendation for a pro horn for a doubler, the sales person said I should try Fox. I wrote them off about having a serious instrument conversation after that. Professionals don't play Fox. Of course, others have said lined instruments and the like, so it's understandable, but still, wasn't that impressed
2. This is really my fault, but I put the wrong address on a shipment. I figured out what I had done, and called them up. Said I would pay for a second shipment, and when the other shipment gets returned to them, keep it, and don't ship that one. (Basically, I double paid cause it was my fault after all, and would be refunded when the other shipment returned. I'm pretty sure I even paid double postage). Anyhow, they sales lady said she would hold the other order, but they wound up shipping the second order. Then I called them to return the second order, cause who needs 2 madrels, and only one guy can take returns, and he wasn't in or on the phone, and it took him 4 hours to return my call to make the return order.
No major problems with them, just a story. All's fine in the end, and I would still order Steven's Staples from them, they're the best price I can find. I would even try some of their used instruments, but they need a better trial policy. 5 days, really? Minimum 7 days, these are $6,000 instruments we're talking here, and it takes time to adjust.
