Well, I have two Boehm system oboes with fairly easy fingering systems. However, I would prefer to play the standard oboe because the makers of these oboes did not make them as ergonomic as the modern oboes are. They also have bright sounds, probably because of narrow bores. One is a Buffet and I think they should have had the clarinet department build it instead of the oboe department. The modern fingering system seems difficult at first but it just takes some practice. While modern makers could make a Boehm oboe with a modern sound, they don't, most likely because they do not see a profit in it for them. Puchner quoted a Boehm fingered oboe for me once, about 1986, at a very reasonable price.

I've never found any store bought or custom reeds that made me happy. One always has to adjust reeds anyhow, so why not learn to make them?
