Hey, Dutchy! You pretty much nailed in in regard to the, um, "issues" with the video. Out-of-time tambourine being picked up on the choir mikes, hydraulic electric piano slamming away like an industrial-strength metronome, etc. Loved the tight shots of the harpist, with no harp sound apparent. And the shots where the timpanist appeared to be pounding on the director's head.
There were individual mikes under all of our stands, but apparently, they turned them off, except for that one magic moment at the beginning where my mike was obviously ON.
I would like to think (in fact, I DO think) that the actual sound in the sanctuary was much more balanced than what the video conveys.
But the Little Old Lady violist to my left was a peach. And her two adult daughters were playing second violin, over on the other side of the ensemble. All the strings were amazingly good, in real life.
From what I have been told, this little orchestra is sort of a club of regulars. The church itself has an instrumental ensemble, and they try to incorporate their own members whenever possible, and then supplement it with hirees as necessary. But even the hired folk are invited back year after year, so they all know each other and look forward to the several times a year that this congregation mounts these productions.
I am honored to have been included among them, and would be delighted to be invited back (which, if I heard the director correctly, will happen).
Susan
