Lots of good practices!
In addition, I clean inside the reed once in awhile with a cut-off feather shown in the photo, very carefully. Wet the reed. Place the top part (including the tip) in the water. Slide the cut feather in and out. And watch all that gunk come out. I know someone does this in peroxide to give a good clean up and disinfecting the reed. I would suspect the reed would last better.
