In my estimation, the Puchner English horn was (no contest) the
"Queen of the Fleet" at IDRS last year in Tempe. I have ordered a Puchner English horn (with left C# added), and I may in fact soon order yet another.
Puchner will have oboes, and oboe d'amore, and an English horn on display at IDRS 2012. The new design Puchner "heavy wall" bocal is like no other EH bocal ever made- absolutely astonishing.
For me, the "runner up" English horn at 2011 IDRS (for me) was the Moenning "Platinum" model. I found the "Diamond" model to "stodgy" in comparison
to the "Platinum" model.
The new Buffet English horn model BC4713 would be worth comparing to Loree.
Although Bugheroni makes fabulous oboes in my estimation (I bought one of the "Opera" model oboes at Tempe in half a heartbeat), the English horns
(though engineered to the same standards as Loree) seem to vary a lot.
Some sing for glory, and others seem somewhat "stuffy" and "just the facts."
You may need to try 3 or 4.
I never use Bulgheroni bocals. The Loree "H" bocals seem to work very well
with Bulgheroni English horns.
