Thanks, both Mary and Peter, for your responses.
I got interested in this maker after playing one on loan this past summer. I am now trying to contact it's owner for the particulars of when he acquired it. I also had tried one casually a couple of years ago and thought it was pretty nice. It's owner (another Susan) had gotten it from you, Peter.
There is not much information about this maker available online. One commentator (Geoffrey Bridge) alleges that the factory went out of business before WWII http://en.allexperts.com/q/Oboe-2282/2011/4/Jarde-Oboe.htm
But I think that cannot possibly be the case, since the person from whom I borrowed the instrument this past summer is "only" in his seventies, and this was his professional instrument when he was a young man. I am virtually certain that he bought it new.
At any rate, we shall see. I will try to contact both of these folks regarding their serial numbers, and I will let you all know what I think of mine when it arrives.
Susan
