Marigaux Strasser 801 thumbplate model, ca 1976.
Instrument dropped in case from a height of 1m onto a hard floor. Most of the shock delivered to upper 1st octave pillar through the case (if you think those elegant wooden cases lined with velvet actually absorb any lateral shock - think again).
Elongated ~3 cm vertical crack formed around this pillar. Initially the crack was open but settled back to being closed after a few days. Crack seems superficial (1 - 1.5 mm in depth), is nowhere near any of the tone-holes and does not flex at all with the octave-key. Oboe plays beautifully and just gets sweeter with age.
