Good advice, both!
Another possibility is that the tip is just too closed.
When it's well-soaked, try either pinching the reed open with your fingers or apply a needle-nosed pliers to the staple to open the tip (when the staple is supported on a mandrel, please).
But for scraping purposes, "Scraping in a straight line on the left and right corners of the reed immediately behind the tip also helps".
You will get so good at 'diagnosing' and fixing your reed problems, the more reeds you make.
I admire those people who keep good notes on what's working or not for them... I never kept notes, and my learning 'process' has of course been much longer because of that.
