Hi all,
When I was at Howarth in March, there was a very old Frank oboe in the display window there. If that's the one you tried, J Hoyla, please know that it doesn't hold a candle to the current ones.
In my experience, the Moennig is very smooth, making it possible to sing the intervals in a way that Lorees never permitted me to do. I find the Moennigs to feel and respond pretty similarly to the Franks, though the Moennigs are indeed more French in sound.
I never noticed any problem in stability with Loree, but my consistency with low notes and ability to play them softly (even low B-flat with a breath attack) has improved dramatically since I left Loree (briefly for Marigaux and then for Moennig).
By the way, if anyone is in Berlin trying Franks or Moennigs, I would love to meet you.
